Bayanjargal BYAMBASAIKHAN biographical notes

Mr. Byambasaikhan comes from a diverse background of private business, international development finance, and public resources management over the past 25 years. As a banker, project developer and investment manager he has closed several of Asia’s landmark energy transition and mining project finance transactions with international banks, ECAs and carbon funds. Mr. Byambasaikhan is a Mongolian clean energy pioneer who has built the country’s first ever 50MW wind farm in 2012 and launched the nation’s renewable energy transformation. He continues to play instrumental roles in attracting over half a billion dollars in private and international investment into Mongolia’s energy transition to date. In 2014, the World Economic Forum recognized him as a Young Global Leader.

He actively engages in regional economic and infrastructure connectivity campaigns. He managed the energy program of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation program during his time with the Asian Development Bank. He is a member of the Global Energy Interconnection Development Organization (GEIDCO). In 2018-2020 he served as the Special Envoy of the President of Mongolia on Regional Energy Cooperation. Mr. Byambasaikhan served as chief executive of Erdenes Mongol, Mongolia’s sovereign wealth management company; board chair of MobiCom, Mongolia’s largest telecom and IT services company; board director of Oyu Tolgoi, one of the world’s largest copper and gold mining companies managed by Rio Tinto; non-executive director of several mining and oil and gas/CBM companies listed in Canada (ERD-TSX), Australia (EXR-ASX) and Mongolia.

He currently represents the global energy transition leader, Envision Group in Mongolia. In 2021, he was elected to chair the Mongolian Hydrogen Council, an association promoting hydrogen industry policy and investments. Since 2010, he is serving as the vice-chair and chair of the Business Council of Mongolia, an active supporter of the Boao Forum for Asia.
