Amid the interplay of geopolitical dynamics, trade environments, and technological innovation, the global trade landscape is undergoing rapid transformation. The "going global" movement of Chinese enterprises is increasingly becoming a vital pathway in China’s globalization development. From high-speed rail technology and green energy to fintech and internet technologies, Chinese companies are transcending borders—exporting not only products and technologies but also brands, services, and supply chains—continuously exploring new models for global expansion. What makes the new phase of globalization “new”? Which regions hold the greatest growth potential? What obstacles do companies face when expanding overseas? Looking ahead, how can businesses enhance localization, strengthen supply chain resilience, and navigate cross-border capital challenges?
The boundaries of Chinese companies' "going global" strategy continue to expand, with their operational sophistication consistently rising. In recent years, what new shifts have emerged in the target regions and markets for Chinese enterprises expanding overseas? How have their expansion models evolved? As global engagement becomes more long-term, comprehensive, and in-depth, how can companies navigate the underlying challenges and uncertainties in these markets? And how can localization strategies be genuinely realized?
Speaker:
As overseas expansion deepens, Chinese companies are increasingly in need of "full-cycle" and "one-stop" comprehensive financial services. How can globalizing enterprises address challenges and pain points such as cross-border lending, foreign exchange management, and financial risks? As the wave of Chinese companies going overseas surges, how can financial services keep pace? To meet the diverse financial needs of these companies at different stages, how should financial products and services innovate? In improving the cross-border financial service system, how can small and medium-sized financial institutions collaborate more effectively with large financial institutions to jointly build a robust financial service chain for global expansion?
Speaker: Moderator:As China moves into a new phase of digital- and AI-driven development, “new quality productive forces” are reshaping traditional growth models and steering the economy toward innovation led progress. This transition raises several interlinked challenges: how to efficiently integrate factors such as data, technology, capital and other inputs to spark a new wave of technological and industrial innovation; how frontier technologies—AI, IoT and big data—can push production and manufacturing boundaries to accelerate upgrades in traditional sectors; how to navigate the uncertain industrial terrain that accompanies frontier science while preserving market space for entrepreneurship and breakthroughs; and, as China narrows the gap in AI foundation models, how to strengthen the remaining weak links—especially those in computing power and software/hardware—through targeted policy, investment and industrial coordination.
In the current AI wave, computing infrastructure is expanding rapidly, yet computing ultimately depends on electricity—and under China’s "dual‑carbon" objectives (carbon peaking and carbon neutrality) there is a growing shift toward cleaner and greener power. As the country with the largest scale of green power deployment worldwide, China is actively exploring how to align renewables with intelligent computing, fostering computing–power coordination to create truly green data centers. Several leading provinces have already forged their own development paths. How can green power be used more safely, efficiently, and economically? How to establish mechanisms synergizing computing and power systems ? How can the new model of direct green‑power supply be applied more effectively? What obstacles remain to hinder the practical deployment of direct green‑power supply?

To foster long-term economic competitiveness, it is imperative for financial institutions and regulators to ensure robust balance sheet management, rational risk pricing, and sustained financing support. Looking ahead, how can financial institutions—including banks, securities firms, insurance companies, venture capital, and private equity—actively explore new models and pathways for service delivery? How can they develop and strengthen long-term capital and patient capital to provide sustainable momentum for technological innovation? How can systemic bottlenecks be addressed to facilitate a virtuous cycle among technology, industry, and finance?
The Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China reviewed and adopted the "Proposal of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development." The communiqué explicitly stated that the Party will adhere to an economic development-centered approach and promote high-quality development. It assessed that China’s economic foundation remains stable, with numerous advantages, strong resilience, and vast potential, emphasizing that the supporting conditions and fundamental trend of long-term improvement remain unchanged. During the "15th Five-Year Plan" period, how can high-quality development drive the sustained transformation of China’s economy and overcome challenges both domestically and internationally? How can comprehensive deepening of reforms advance high-quality development? In the face of a complex and ever-changing internal and external development environment, along with increasing uncertainties and unpredictable factors, how can China build a modern industrial system and accelerate high-level technological self-reliance? How can issues such as insufficient domestic demand and involution be effectively addressed?

Reflecting on 2025: unextinguished conflicts, persistent geopolitical rivalries, volatile tariffs, a rewriting global economic landscape, frequent extreme weather events, and surging artificial intelligence—these intertwined factors are plunging the world into ever-deeper challenges.
Amid this profound transformation, we urgently need to deepen our understanding of shifting trends in geopolitics, technology, demography, and climate, improve governance mechanisms, and identify new pathways for sustainable growth. We must rekindle a sense of shared community, advance new forms of cooperation in the spirit of mutual benefit, and forge new connections. It is imperative to further cultivate entrepreneurial spirit, seeking innovative solutions to daunting challenges of our time. We must continuously improve the ecosystem and collaborative networks to enable capital, business, and technology to serve the common good.
The 2025 China ESG30 Forum Annual Meeting will once again bring together key stakeholders to engage in in-depth discussions on building long-term value for both the globe and China, as well as actionable strategies for the present. The goal is to build consensus, strengthen confidence, and inspire action. We believe that only through persistent, concerted efforts by mission-driven and innovative leaders and the broader society can we navigate these complex challenges and carve out a certain path toward a sustainable future from an era of uncertainty.
Building on the new starting point of China's "15th Five-Year Plan" and confronting challenges in global governance and domestic economic transformation, the second phase (2025-2026) of the ESG30 Young Scholars Program adopts the theme "Resilient Growth, Co-creating Long-term Value." Focusing on three key pillars—sustainable technology, sustainable finance, and sustainable business—the program will launch a series of research projects integrating public value and practical application. It aims to explore the mechanisms and pathways through which these pillars can synergistically drive long-term value creation, promote closed-loop solutions connecting "technology, capital, market, and policy," accelerate the shift of ESG from theory to scalable practice and from an external add-on to an embedded endogenous mechanism, thereby supporting China’s high-quality economic development and global sustainable growth. Speaker:
The convergence of political rivalry, restructuring of the economic and trade order, macroeconomic cycles, and failures in global governance now pose severe threats to global sustainable development and the preservation of long-term human value. We must respond to immediate challenges with agility and resilience, while also allowing long-term values to guide and orient our present actions as we join forces to forge a breakthrough:
• How have U.S. "withdrawals from international agreements" and Europe's slower regulatory pace impacted global ESG/green investment and practices? In the face of daunting sustainability challenges, how should we invest in our future? How can China maintain strategic resolve and build long-term growth mechanisms?
• How can we navigate changes in the geopolitical and economic landscape, reposition from the perspective of a new globalization, and shape a narrative of responsible global citizenship?
• What methodologies exist for creating long-term value in times of transformation, and how can stakeholder relationships be effectively managed while balancing short- and long-term strategies? How can financial strength be leveraged to empower green transition and sustainable growth?
• How can government, business, academia, international institutions, and industry organizations break down barriers and continuously improve incentive mechanisms and collaborative ecosystems?

The 2025 Nobel Prize in Economics has once again focused societal attention on the role of innovation in economic growth mechanisms. For the green and sustainable transition, innovation is also the ultimate pathway to transforming this transition into tangible growth. This roundtable will bring together experts, scholars, representatives from international organizations, enterprises, and financial institutions to explore the following:
• What promising sustainable innovation solutions exist within enterprises and institutions? How can technological innovations—such as AI, new energy technologies, and carbon-negative solutions—as well as social and institutional innovations (e.g., carbon trading mechanisms, blended finance), be leveraged to drive sustainable development and long-term economic growth?
• How can organizations create enabling conditions for sustainable innovation? How can they move beyond zero-sum competition and position innovation as the core engine for long-term value creation?
• What obstacles exist across the stages of technology R&D, product development, industrialization, and scaling, and how can organizations navigate the "valley of death" in innovation? How can policies and markets collaborate effectively?
• How can financial services and capital market instruments be innovated to support sustainable innovation and the cultivation of new-quality productive forces?
